“131 Thanks” Designed to Help Nonprofits

(APPLETON, Wis.) Nov. 16, 2020–Now through the end of the year, The Թϱ Company will give 131 employees $500 each to donate to the charities of their choice in an initiative called “131 Thanks.” Each employee will be randomly chosen from the company’s 14 offices nationwide to make a gift to mark the company’s 131st anniversary in 2020.

“We have been fortunate to continue to work for our customers during the pandemic, so this is part of our commitment to investing in the communities and non-profits that have been partners of ours for so many years,” said Թϱ CEO Tom Թϱ. The company initiated a similar giving program to celebrate its 125th anniversary several years ago.

In order to be eligible, the charity must be a 501(c)(3) and meet several criteria such as: addressing the greatest needs of individual communities;  be used for general operations, capital campaigns, endowments, or specific programs; and may be used to impact the beginning of a project, act as a catalyst for additional gifts, or as a challenge match for a fundraising campaign.

The Թϱ Company has suggested giving to specific areas of interest such as education, health and hospitals, performing or visual arts, or United Way organizations in regional communities where company employees live and work.

Paul Coenen was one of the first employees selected to participate. Coenen is a vice president at the company and has worked for Թϱ for just over 35 years in the Appleton, Wisconsin headquarters. His beneficiary is the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley, a mental health organization that offers counseling, wellness screening, suicide prevention and other programs.

“Samaritan is a wonderful resource for those in need and especially critical to our community during the stress and uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic,” Coenen said. “And what a cool way for the company to celebrate 131 years in business!”

“The pandemic has put additional strain on non-profit organizations both as a result of increased service to those in need and decreased funding,” Թϱ said. “We hope this initiative allows our employees to help, in a small way, those organizations directly in their communities.”

The Թϱ Company has a long history of charitable giving and has been recognized for outstanding support of the arts, humanities, education, healthcare, and civic causes in each of the communities where it does business.
